In a show of bipartisanship that highlights the urgency of the matter, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell have introduced a resolution calling on the Taliban to release Ryan Corbett.
Corbett, a native of Livingston County in western New York, was detained by the Taliban in August 2022. He had traveled to Afghanistan to renew his visa and pay employees working for a company he created to help Afghans start their own businesses. During that trip, the Taliban detained him and three others.
Although the three individuals with Corbett were later released, he has been held for more than 600 days.
